Vida Joven Dominicana

The Dominican Republic is a country of youth - needy youth.  Half of the population is under 19 years of age.  These kids are being crushed under the weight of poverty, loneliness, rejection, drugs, alcohol, AIDs, and lack of education.  They struggle to belong, to find meaning, and simply to survive.  Often times a relationship with a YL leader is their only connection to the light and hope that Jesus offers.

Young Life, or Vida Joven, began in the Dominican Republic in 1986 and celebrated 20 years of sharing Christ with teens in 2006!  Today Vida Joven serves over 400 Dominican teens a week in various parts of the country.

Where are we?

Vida Joven serves Dominican kids in three main areas: Santo Domingo, Santiago, and La Vega.  Within these three areas there are seventeen different club areas.  Santo Domingo: Libertador, Buenos Aires, Cancino II, Los Frailes, and Barrio Duarte.  Santiago: Nibaje, Buenos Aires, Cristo Rey, Licey, two clubs in English (Santiago Christian School), and one for kids with disabilities (Cien Fuegos - Capernaum).  La Vega: Los Palmaritos, Los Pomos, Jarabacoa, Barranca, and one for Haitians living within the Dominican Republic.

Who are we?

In addition to our camp staff, Vida Joven has eight full-time ministry staff, five student staff, and hundreds of volunteer leaders.

How Can I Be Involved?

There are several ways to be involved with Young Life in the Dominican Republic.  In addition to the many opportunities on this web-site (work trips, summer staff, adventure program, etc.) you can also support the ministry itself through your prayers and donations.  Young Life is a non-profit organization and all field staff and club areas fundraise their salaries and expenses.  To support a field staff member or Young Life area financially follow the steps below.  Thank you and Gracias!

Checks:  made out to Young Life with the account number for YL in the Dominican Republic which is X315 DR.  If you would like the donation to go to a specific staff member or club area, simply include the staff member's name (for example: Rafa Alejo) or area name (for example: Licey) on the memo line.  Send to: Young Life Income Processing, PO Box 2920, Colorado Springs, CO 80901.

*To support Scott Miedema put X379 Miedema on the memo line.  For Steph Post, put X386 Post.

On-line: Go to https://ssl.charityweb.net/younglife.  Under "Gift Designation" click the button for "A Young Life Staff Member's Ministry".  Put the name and account number of the person you wish to support in the box  (see above).

If you would like to financially support the construction of Pico Escondido and/or scholarships for Dominican kids to attend camp, contact us.
